Kemin Europa is pleased to announce the successful launch, in the Autumn of last year, of a new product called Quadrion™ dry.
Quadrion™ dry is a key player in the Total Nutrition concept, which is Kemin's focus today.

Quadrion™ dry is defined as a mixture of acids and their calcium salts, including butyrate, presented as a non-dusty granulate.

Synergistic blends of salts of organic acids are appropriate and easy to apply. They may have their anti microbial effects through their non-dissociated acid form at low pH, as occurs in the stomach. Their dissociated anions that are released at a higher pH, as occurs in the intestines, are believed to prevent colonisation of the intestines by pathogen micro-organism through their tissue destructing effects. These “active anions” may preferably be propionate, lactate and fumarate and the preferable salts to be calcium salts.

Indeed, organic calcium has a much better bio availability compared to the calcium supplied by limestone and, the buffer capacity of organic calcium salts is much lower. This allows nutritionists to formulate lower buffer capacity feeds promoting a more efficient natural acidification of the digesta by the hydrochloric acid in the stomach.

A supplementation with (calcium-) butyrate seems to be beneficial to the intestinal health and may improve nutrient absorption and animal performances. Indeed, the absorbed butyric acid act as biologically active material on the living process of the intestinal epithelial cells or will be metabolised, serving an important energy source for these cells.

Moreover, the general health status of the GI-tract is important for the animals’ immune-defence and for maximal animal performances.
