The Myanmar Fish Federation and Livestock Breeding Federation will hold a joint seminar on fish and prawn feed at Lotte Hotel in Yangon on August 25th. The seminar is being held to address the increasing price of feed, according to Dr. Thet Hmu, chair of the Myanmar Fish and Prawn Feed Manufacturers Association. "One of the main problems for the fisheries sector is rising prices of fish feed. There were 5 government-owned fish and prawn feed factories. All of them were shut down and one has been sold away. If things go on like this, the private sector will face difficulty"
At the recent 33rd session of the FAO Committee on Fisheries (COFI 33), IFFO hosted a side event titled ‘a sustainable future for aquaculture' to provide a comprehensive overview of issues related to aquatic feeds and sustainable aquaculture. IFFO’s Technical Director, Dr. Neil Auchterlonie, represented the marine ingredients industry and discussed the key role of fishmeal and fish oil as feed ingredients. "Marine ingredients, most notably fishmeal and fish oil, are the foundation of feed for the aquaculture industry and remain a strategic ingredient given the highly nutritious qualities. At IFFO, we are working hard to encourage responsible sourcing and finding the most effective way to use these valuable ingredients.”
This year’s IFFO Annual Conference will be held in Rome from October 15-17. IFFO’s President Eduardo Goycoolea will lead and moderate a panel of industry leaders to discuss the perception and future development of the marine ingredients industry. “This panel will give us an opportunity to ask the tough questions that our industry needs to confront to ensure continued prosperity and stability. We will discuss and challenge the many myths linked to the fishmeal and fish oil industry."
The Aquaponics Association will host its annual International Aquaponics Conference in Connecticut from September 21-23, 2018. The theme for this year's conference is 'Putting Up Shoots,' and a call for presentations is now open. The purpose of the three-day conference is to advance the practice of aquaponics by connecting growers, researchers and enthusiasts from around the world. The Conference will consist of four learning tracks: Commercial Aquaponics, Community Aquaponics, Aquaponics Research & Food Safety, and Aquaponics in STEM Education.
The NAA has released a call for presentations for the next Algae Production Workshop, to be held this fall in Woodlands, Texas. Specifically, the NAA is seeking presentations covering the topics of 'Commercial Production,' 'New Algae Markets,' 'Supply Channels' and 'Pricing Strategies.'
