April 2010 U.S. Catfish Feed Deliveries Up 23 Percent from Last Year        

Total catfish feed delivered in the United States during April was 40,145 tons, up 23 percent from April 2009, and up significantly from the previous month.  Foodsize catfish feed delivered totaled 38,080 tons, up 20 percent from the corresponding month a year ago.  Feed delivered for fingerlings and broodfish totaled 2,065 tons, up 85 percent from the corresponding month a year ago.

April feed delivered to Mississippi catfish growers for foodsize fish totaled 17,203 tons, up 36 percent from last year.  Mississippi accounted for 45 percent of the total foodsize catfish feed delivered to U.S. farmers.

The other major States with catfish feed deliveries for foodsize fish in April and their comparison to the previous year were Alabama with 12,416 tons, up 14 percent; Arkansas with 4,087 tons, up 4 percent; and Louisiana with 565 tons, down 57 percent.
