Cargill Corn Milling unveils Lysto, an all-natural protein concentrate

New aquaculture feed ingredient delivers a more complete amino acid profile for greater muscle mass
August 18, 2011

Cargill Corn Milling recently introduced its latest product: Lysto, a digestible protein concentrate with the added benefit of lysine all within a single ingredient. "Feed manufacturers continually seek to improve their ingredient mixture," says Eric Bell, the Cargill product line manager. "Lysto is the solution for feeders who want to maximize muscle growth through an effective combination of ingredients."

Naturally powerful
Lysto contains lysine, an essential amino acid that creates a more balanced protein profile. The addition of lysine ultimately offers feeders an unrivaled source of important nutrients promoting muscle growth and digestibility.

Protein  75.2 percent
Fat  4.1 percent
Lysine  5.2 percent
Methionine  1.8 percent
Moisture  8.5 percent

Ingredients: Corn Protein Concentrate, Dried L-Lysine Fermentation Product

Its uniform, fine-cell structure provides superior functionality for extrusion and binding ingredients, which allow consistent management of feed buoyancy and fat coating.

Lysto undergoes a rigorous production and cleansing process to improve stability and shelf life. During the cleansing process, Lysto is heated to a minimum of 145 degrees Fahrenheit for no less than 60 minutes. Then it's taken through a drying process to reduce the water activity to less than 0.8 percent.

By holding Lysto at elevated temperatures in this process, mycotoxin, organophosphateand other contaminant levels are dramatically reduced.

With headquarters in Minneapolis, Cargill Corn Milling consists of seven corn "wet milling" and two corn "dry milling" facilities in the United States. The wet mills – in which corn kernels are steeped in water and separated into starch, protein, germ and fiber – are located in Blair, Neb.; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Dayton, Ohio; Decatur, Ala.; Eddyville, Iowa; Memphis, Tenn.; and Wahpeton, N.D. The dry mills – in which corn kernels are ground into flour – are in Paris, Ill., and Indianapolis.

Lysto, the newest member of the Empyreal family, is an extremely digestible protein concentrate with the added benefit of lysine in a single ingredient. It delivers a more complete amino acid profile to help build even greater muscle mass.
