BASF has been strengthening its position as a vitamin A producer for animal nutrition. The company expanded its vitamin A acetate in July 2021 and in May 2023 completed the construction phase of a state-of-the-art vitamin A formulation plant.

The facility is fully integrated into the vitamin Verbund. Verbund is what BASF calls its intelligent connection of production plants and technologies to efficiently use resources and leverage expertise. The vitamin A formulation plant has been constructed using BASF’s vast production as well as formulation expertise in vitamins and incorporates new features which will further enhance competitive and reliable operations.

The plant team is currently performing the first functional runs, the last step before the vitamin A formulation plant goes into operation. The company is using digital solutions and mobile devices to efficiently perform comprehensive, functional tests on machines, equipment, and automatic steering modules in a safe and efficient manner.

BASF plans to reach stable production of vitamin A1000 in September 2023 and will gradually ramp up commercial volumes afterward. The stepwise increase of the capacities is in line with their higher vitamin A acetate production capacity. The production of vitamin AD3 will start later in the year.
