At the Asian Pacific Aquaculture Show Nov. 3-6, 2009, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Cargill will feature Hoplite, a natural yeast product designed to act as a partial fish meal replacer while also providing gut health benefits for fish and shrimp and improving palatability of feed.

Hoplite made its debut last month at the World Aquaculture Show in Veracruz, Mexico, where it drew interest from producers, consultants and feed mills of all sizes. Now visitors to Cargill booth #38 at the Asian Pacific Aquaculture Show will have the opportunity to talk to Cargill specialists about how Hoplite can help aquaculture producers minimize their environmental impact.

“Because Hoplite™ can partially replace a producer’s use of fish meal, it’s an environmentally conscious addition to any feed program,” said Christine Cerkvenik, product line manager. “It’s also a great option for producers committed to organic or all-natural fish and shrimp because Hoplite does not come in contact with antibiotics at any stage of production.”

The sustainably sourced, natural yeast product contains nucleotides and proteins that support the immune system and cell growth, which may improve the gut health of fish and shrimp. In addition, Hoplite™ can improve palatability, thereby encouraging weight gain and overall productivity. In research trials, fish on diets containing Hoplite™ showed increased feed intake over fish on a regularly prescribed diet.
