The Russian government is expanding measures to support farmers amid international sanctions, including feed suppliers for species such as salmon and sturgeon.

Starting in 2023, the government will compensate 20% of the costs for the construction or modernization of feed mills for the production of feed for salmon and sturgeon. The government aims to accelerate the construction of aquafeed production facilities to increase production volumes.

The measures are among others supporting agribusinesses, such as small businesses and the production of local agricultural commodities, to reduce the reliance on imports.

The move follows recent efforts of the Russian government to reduce reliance on aquafeed imports after Western countries cut off supplies following the invasion of Ukraine. In early in April, the government aimed to subsidize capital costs for the construction of three salmon feed mills.
