Mexico exports 140,000 tons of fishmeal and fish oil in 2019

Mexican producers exported fishmeal and fish oil to 18 countries in the Americas, Europe and Asia worth $144 million.

During 2019, Mexican producers and processors exported more than 110,000 tons of fishmeal and around 30,000 tons of oils to 18 countries in the Americas, Europe and Asia, which is equivalent to 3.5 billion pesos ($144 million).

The state of Sonora was the largest exporter of fishmeal with a volume of 61,285 tons, followed by Jalisco with 28,939 tons and Sinaloa with 19,705 tons. As for fish oils, Jalisco exported 16,796 tons, Sonora 11,225 tons and Sinaloa 1,599 tons.

Fishmeal and fish oil exports are of great importance for the country. The main shipments of fishmeal were to China with 53,166 tons, the U.S. with 15,441, Canada with 12,877 tons, Taiwan with 10,712 tons and Japan with 4,517 tons. Fish oils were shipped to Denmark with 9,535 tons, Canada with 4,986 tons, Chile with 4,529, Belgium with 3,574 tons and Guatemala with 1,074 tons.
