THAILAND - Guardian newspaper makes shocking accusations of slavery on Thai fishing vessels

A shocking report by the U.K. Guardian newspaper claims Thai fishing vessels that enslave, brutalize and even kill workers are linked to the global shrimp supply chain. The newspaper says its six-month long investigation found that shrimp sold in leading supermarkets around the world, including the top four global retailers: Walmart, Carrefour, Costco and Tesco, were raised using fishmeal sourced from Thai fishing boats that used slave labor.

The International Cooperation to Sequence the Atlantic Salmon Genome (ICSASG) announced completion of a fully mapped and openly accessible salmon genome. In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Pilmico International Pte. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Inc. (AEV) said it will purchase 70% equity interest in Vinh Hoan 1 Feed JSC (VHF) from Vinh Hoan Corp. (VHC). Combining soybean meal with fish meal made from invasive Asian carp produces a more nutritious, sustainable and economical option for feeding some farm-raised fish, according to recent Southern Illinois University (SIU) research. Both lab and on-farm feeding trial research, funded by the Illinois soybean checkoff through the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA), show species like hybrid striped bass and largemouth bass can effectively digest higher amounts of soybean meal when blended with meal derived from Asian carp.

Just over half of the climate models surveyed by the Bureau suggesting El Niño thresholds will be exceeded by August.
