Aqua-Spark has announced an investment in Protix, a leading insect company based in The Netherlands. Alongside Rabobank and private investors, Aqua-Spark will be leading a €45 million investment, the largest investment ever made in the insect industry. Protix is a highly technological and data driven insect producer, regarded for its automated breeding and rearing process. The driver behind Aqua-Spark’s interest is Protix promising uses for aquaculture.

Aquabotix has introduced Live Remote Viewing, a new product feature that enables real-time underwater viewing and connectivity between Aquabotix’s products and remote customers via the cloud. Aquaculture customers will now have access to continuous live feeds from the Endura ROV that can assess feeding habits to prevent overfeeding, monitor the condition of the fish and nets, and inspect moorings. 

Calysta, Inc. announced a pledge supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14 to “conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.” The Calysta pledge was made in conjunction with the UN’s Ocean Conference June 5-9 in New York City, and will be published in the Registry of Voluntary Commitments on the conference website. “Calysta also supports the FAO’s Blue Growth Initiative, with specific emphasis on using scientific knowledge, research and development capacity, and market-based initiatives to drive an increase in sustainable aquaculture practices by 2020.”

Using a compilation of data from past weather patterns, combined with regional mycotoxin levels of past six years, Nutriad has created a model to generating predictive information on future mycotoxin challenges. This model will be made available in the USA, where Nutriad is cooperating with renowned meteorologist Thomas Novak of Novak Weather Consultants.

Kemin Industries has extended their “Antibiotic Alternative (ABA) Solutions” campaign to customers in Taiwan. The seminar helped more than one hundred participants, including external consultants, distributors, feed millers and farmers, understand trends on replacing antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs) in animal feed and regulations in Taiwan.

A new ERBER Group North American hub office will open in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area later this year. On May 23rd, the first batch of GroPro was produced successfully on the new production line at Angel's plant in Liuzhou. The new production line started construction in September last year. Due to growing demand for GroPro in China, the new facility is a customized production line only for GroPro with an annual capacity of nearly 12,000 tones.

Nutriad has announced the appointment of Mr. Roman Krikovtsov as Key Account Manager for the Russian market. Lallemand Animal Nutrition has announced the continuation of its Lallemand Forward Scholarship in 2017. This is the third consecutive year that the scholarship program will be offered to students in the United States, Mexico and Canada. The 2017 program offers: three $2,500 undergraduate scholarships, one $3,000 master’s scholarship and one $3,000 doctoral scholarship. Calysta, Inc. has announced the successful production of over four metric tons of commercially representative FeedKind® protein for distribution to customers and partners globally.  These samples will support market development in the European Union, the United States, Japan, Southeast Asia, China, and Australia. “We are extremely pleased at the performance of this facility achieving its target metrics quickly, safely and efficiently. This accomplishment has been possible based on the strength of our proprietary technology and the fact that this facility is a scaled-down version of a successful commercial facility.”

Evonik has released its Sustainability Report 2016, which examines the contribution made by its products to resource efficiency in the application phase, including energy savings and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption, and waste. Results confirm that around 50 percent of the sales generated by Evonik\'s chemical segments already come from products that make a measurable contribution to improving resource efficiency in the use phase, such as amino acids for animal nutrition.

Angel's new yeast plant in Russia covers an area of 30 hectares with the annual production capacity of 20 thousand tonnes. It is going to be Angel's most advanced yeast manufacturing plant. The construction includes installation of a main workshop, energy power center, environmental plant and production facilities.

The 3rd edition of the Olmix International technical seminar on animal health and nutrition took place in Guangzhou, China, from April 27-28. This year's event shed light on the natural alternatives to reduce the use of antibiotics in animal production in Asia. The aquaculture workshop pointed out some of the current trends of the field with conferences such us "Alternative Sustainable Way of Farming: Polyculture, Fish Meal Replacement, Benefits and Limitations" and "Improvement of Digestibility of Aqua Feeds."
