NouriTech™ and its lead investors, Calysta, Inc. and Cargill, were joined by state and local elected officials this week to officially break ground on a 37-acre Memphis feed production facility. The plant will be home to the world’s largest gas fermentation operation that will produce Calysta’s FeedKind® protein. "FeedKind protein is a new sustainable feed ingredient that is critical to helping meet sharply rising global demand for food. We are delighted to partner with Cargill and the Memphis community to launch construction at NouriTech of our first commercial scale manufacturing plant. Omega Protein is preparing to launch its 105th consecutive fishing season in Reedville, Virginia, and the Company will christen its two newest fishing vessels, the Cockrells Creek and the Windmill Point. These new, updated vessels continue Omega Protein's efforts to advance its sustainable practices by modernizing its fishing fleet. These efforts, and the company's other sustainable operations, are documented in a short film, Omega Protein: Fishing for Life, which is being released in conjunction with the launch of the new vessels.

Ridley Corporation Limited announced that it has executed a Novacq™ Research Alliance Agreement with CSIRO, and has also extended its existing Novacq™ license agreement with the CSIRO. The LA scope has been extended to cover improvements to the NovacqTM Technology and new applications, including potentially using NovacqTM as a feed additive for species other than prawn and crustaceans, which may be developed during the course of the Alliance Agreement. “Through the strategic research alliance with the CSIRO, we will be looking to develop a comprehensive platform of Novacq™ data. We believe there is a reasonable likelihood that Novacq™ can have a positive application in other species, not only in the most likely application for fin fish, but also potentially for land-based animals.”
The Alltech 37+® mycotoxin analytical services laboratory in Dunboyne, County Meath, Ireland, was accredited in accordance with international standard. The laboratory, which opened in April 2016, is the third of its kind for Alltech, which has two similar laboratories in the U.S. and China. The proprietary 37+ LC/MS/MS analytical method, developed by Alltech, is included in the scope of accreditation. This analytical method is state-of-the-art in its detection and quantization of more than 37 mycotoxins at parts per billion (ppb) and parts per trillion (ppt) levels.

A total of 40 organizations, including 6 scientific and 34 company partners from 5 countries, are taking a farm-to-fork approach to addressing food safety and food security issues, in the form of the new K1 Center for Feed and Food Quality, Safety and Innovation (FFoQSI) in Austria. The goal of the four-year, sixteen million euro project is to make feed and food production better, safer and more sustainable, and to drive further innovation through basic and applied research. ”FFoQSI would create a unique hallmark of food chain integration in Europe for countries—particularly where small and medium size food supply chains are essential.”

A total of 183 startups from 38 countries applied to be a part of The Pearse Lyons Accelerator, a late-stage, agri-tech accelerator run by Alltech and Dogpatch Labs. The accelerator will commence with 10 startups that have been chosen to take part in a mentorship program for agri-business innovators with a proven technology that is ready for market. eFishery from Indonesia is the only aquaculture-related participant, with their fish feeder that automatically senses the appetite of fish and adjusts the amount of feed accordingly.
