Evonik has released its Sustainability Report 2016, which examines the contribution made by its products to resource efficiency in the application phase, including energy savings and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption, and waste. Results confirm that around 50 percent of the sales generated by Evonik\'s chemical segments already come from products that make a measurable contribution to improving resource efficiency in the use phase, such as amino acids for animal nutrition.

Nutriad announced the appointment of Jeroen De Gussem as Marketing Director and Joke Van De Velde as Marketing Communications Manager. Angel's new yeast plant in Russia covers an area of 30 hectares with the annual production capacity of 20 thousand tonnes. It is going to be Angel's most advanced yeast manufacturing plant. The construction includes installation of a main workshop, energy power center, environmental plant and production facilities.

The 3rd edition of the Olmix International technical seminar on animal health and nutrition took place in Guangzhou, China, from April 27-28. This year's event shed light on the natural alternatives to reduce the use of antibiotics in animal production in Asia. The aquaculture workshop pointed out some of the current trends of the field with conferences such us "Alternative Sustainable Way of Farming: Polyculture, Fish Meal Replacement, Benefits and Limitations" and "Improvement of Digestibility of Aqua Feeds."

Calysta, Inc. announced $40 million in Series D funding, in a financing round led by Mitsui & Co. Ltd. After years of research on yeast, Angel Animal Nutrition Research Institute found that yeast cell could release substances with antibacterial activity after enzymolysis and modified. The yeast essence "YeaSense" is extracted from the antibacterial substance. NouriTech™ and its lead investors, Calysta, Inc. and Cargill, were joined by state and local elected officials this week to officially break ground on a 37-acre Memphis feed production facility. The plant will be home to the world’s largest gas fermentation operation that will produce Calysta’s FeedKind® protein. "FeedKind protein is a new sustainable feed ingredient that is critical to helping meet sharply rising global demand for food. We are delighted to partner with Cargill and the Memphis community to launch construction at NouriTech of our first commercial scale manufacturing plant. Omega Protein is preparing to launch its 105th consecutive fishing season in Reedville, Virginia, and the Company will christen its two newest fishing vessels, the Cockrells Creek and the Windmill Point. These new, updated vessels continue Omega Protein's efforts to advance its sustainable practices by modernizing its fishing fleet. These efforts, and the company's other sustainable operations, are documented in a short film, Omega Protein: Fishing for Life, which is being released in conjunction with the launch of the new vessels.

Multinational feed additives producer Nutriad added a French, Russian and Vietnamese version of their comprehensive website. These additions bring the total of languages supported by the Nutriad website to seven. "Enabling our customers to find information about Nutriad and the Nutriad product ranges Mycotoxin Management, Gut Health and Palatability in their own language confirms our ambition to communicate directly with producers on our solutions for animal health and nutrition.”

Ridley Corporation Limited announced that it has executed a Novacq™ Research Alliance Agreement with CSIRO, and has also extended its existing Novacq™ license agreement with the CSIRO. The LA scope has been extended to cover improvements to the NovacqTM Technology and new applications, including potentially using NovacqTM as a feed additive for species other than prawn and crustaceans, which may be developed during the course of the Alliance Agreement. “Through the strategic research alliance with the CSIRO, we will be looking to develop a comprehensive platform of Novacq™ data. We believe there is a reasonable likelihood that Novacq™ can have a positive application in other species, not only in the most likely application for fin fish, but also potentially for land-based animals.”

Nutriad, together with local partners, opened its new palatability factory in Nantong (China). The new factory, with a 10,000 Mt capacity/year, will operate under the FFI (Feed Flavour International) brand. Building on strong experience in swine nutrition, the new plant will also service aquaculture and ruminant applications. “As the Chinese industry has developed, both government regulations as well as customer demands have changed over the years. This new factory is in full compliance with the latest environmental and safety regulations and brings together our years of experience from producing and servicing customers across the world.”

The Alltech 37+® mycotoxin analytical services laboratory in Dunboyne, County Meath, Ireland, was accredited in accordance with international standard. The laboratory, which opened in April 2016, is the third of its kind for Alltech, which has two similar laboratories in the U.S. and China. The proprietary 37+ LC/MS/MS analytical method, developed by Alltech, is included in the scope of accreditation. This analytical method is state-of-the-art in its detection and quantization of more than 37 mycotoxins at parts per billion (ppb) and parts per trillion (ppt) levels.

Evonik will increase its net price of MetAMINO® (DL-methionine 99% feed grade) by 7% in Europe with immediate effect. All existing contracts and supply agreements will be honored.

Coppens International, which joined Alltech in 2016, will be collaborating with Guabi, a leading fish feed producer in Brazil. Guabi, a 43-year veteran in the animal feed business, entered into a strategic partnership with Alltech earlier this year, and now Alltech is linking the two leading aquaculture feed producers from opposite sides of the ocean together to accelerate solutions for the aquaculture industry. Guabi and Coppens have already begun discussing new opportunities, and it is expected that algae technology will be a significant focus.

A total of 40 organizations, including 6 scientific and 34 company partners from 5 countries, are taking a farm-to-fork approach to addressing food safety and food security issues, in the form of the new K1 Center for Feed and Food Quality, Safety and Innovation (FFoQSI) in Austria. The goal of the four-year, sixteen million euro project is to make feed and food production better, safer and more sustainable, and to drive further innovation through basic and applied research. ”FFoQSI would create a unique hallmark of food chain integration in Europe for countries—particularly where small and medium size food supply chains are essential.”

Nutriad participated in the yearly aquaculture seminar organized by its Vietnamese distribution partner Tan Sao. This year’s seminar was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The event addressed challenges for farmers on health and nutrition. Geelen Counterflow has won the 2017 Breeam Award for Office New Construction. The new office generates 50% more energy from its solar panels than the building needs for ventilation, heating, cooling, light and computing. However, the main reason for the high BREEAM score is the fact that the entire office is built out of massive timber, without adhesives. “We hope that this office will serve as an example to other construction projects. Energy-neutral construction in massive timber is just one of the ways in which we can make a small contribution to keeping our planet healthy for future generations.”
