The European Aquaculture Society announced two upcoming special workshops related to the EAS thematic group European Percid Fish Culture (EPFC). The workshop \"Reproduction of European Pikeperch,\" taking place September 11-15 in Belgium, will provide hands-on practical training on all relevant aspects in relation to the reproduction of European pikeperch (Sander lucioperca). The EPFC Workshop 2017 will take place on October 17 during the Aquaculture Europe conference in Dubrovnik. The workshop, titled \"New skillsets in Percid Fish Culture,\" will pertain to the latest achievements in skills and competencies required for successful percid fish culture.

Method validation has recently been in the spotlight of regulatory agencies and industry task forces, with new guidelines and regulations from the FDA, EMA, and USP. The two-day workshop \"Validation, Verification and Transfer of Analytical Methods (Understanding and implementing guidelines from FDA/EMA, USP and ICH)\" will give attendees the background to understand the requirements pertaining to method validation, and will focus on strategies and provide tools to implement most critical requirements.

The Asian Pacific Aquaculture 2018 (APA18) conference will take place from April 23-26 at the Taipei International Convention Centre in Taiwan. The theme of the conference will be \"Innovation for aquaculture sustainability and food safety.\"

The Kick-Off precedes ILDEX Indonesia 2017, which will be held October 18th-20th in Jakarta.

Registration is open for the \"Extrusion Processing: Technology and Commercialization\" short course scheduled for August 15-18, 2017 at Kansas State University. The short course will cover various aspects of extrusion processing, including technology, equipment, product development and sensory evaluation of new products. Products covered include aquatic feed, snack foods, textured soy, breakfast cereal, rice analog, and pet food.

GAA will GAA celebrate the organization’s 20th anniversary at GOAL 2017 at historic Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland. This year’s theme is “The Next 20: From Promise To Delivery,” addressing the reality of delivering on the seafood community’s sustainability commitments over the next 20 years

African aquaculture signaled its coming-of-age at World Aquaculture 2017. The conference theme, “Sustainable Aquaculture – New Frontiers for Economic Growth – Spotlight on Africa” highlighted the potential of aquaculture production to support economic development and investment opportunities in Africa. A highlight of the event was the consensus achieved to launch an African Chapter of the World Aquaculture Society.

The Aquaculture Innovation Summit is a new conference, as part of the Animal Health Innovation series, which focuses on showcasing and supporting innovation and sustainability initiatives in three key areas of aquaculture: farm management, nutrition and health. It will take place in London September 27-29, 2017. 

“The 5th Young Animal Nutrition and Health Application Technology Seminar” was held in Yichang in Hubei province July 13-14. Seminar topics included nutrition regulation technology in both female and young animals, protein resource review in aqua, non-antibiotic solutions, and more. Yu Xuefeng, Chairman of Angel Yeast, introduced Angel Animal Nutrition during his speech at the seminar.

Progressus and Kasetsart University AgriSchools are hosting a Certificate in Aqua Nutrition course from August 21-25, 2017 in Thailand. The program covers in detail aqua nutrition including marine & fresh-water fish and shrimp formulations. It focuses on developing pressures on Aqua Nutrition and explores options available in adjusting formulations with reduced fish-meal inclusion.

Several speakers and sponsors from this year’s Offshore Mariculture Conference, which took place from March 6-10, recently shared updates on their experiences after the conference. Global industry executives from the animal feed processing, grain processing, ingredients & additives, aquafeed, petfood and biomass pelleting industries traveled to Cologne in Germany on June 13 & 14, 2017 for the first edition of FVG Select. The focus of FVG Select was networking, business match-making and gathering new industry knowledge, which was facilitated through an extensive conference and matchmaking program.

The 2017 BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology will feature a three-day education track exploring synthetic biology’s potential to accelerate commercial development of biotechnology products. Panels and presentations feature speakers from companies, universities and government.

The Latin American & Caribbean Chapter (LACC) of WAS has announced the Plenary Speakers for the annual LACQUA conference are Dr. Albert G.J. Tacon, Technical Director of Aquatic Farms Ltd in Hawaii, and Dr. Antonio Garza De Yta, aquaculture expert and consultant for FAO.

Asian Pacific Aquaculture 2017 (APA17) will hold a Malaysian Farmers Day on July 25th, 2017 at the Putra World Trade Center in Kuala Lumpur. The aim is to bring all the farmers forward to discuss sustainable farming practices and move to market driven aquaculture, which is linked to the theme of the Malaysian Farmers Day “Transforming Aquaculture towards 2020.\"

The European Aquaculture Society has announced that the program grid and program information for Aquaculture Europe 2017 is now available online at the AE2017 page of the EAS website. The program contains an overview of the sessions, information and profiles of the AE2017 Plenary Speakers, as well as other information on special sessions and Industry Forums taking place during the week.

USSEC – Southeast Asia together with international partners and speakers helped the Philippines to develop a sustainable, high-volume, export-focused marine fish aquaculture sector in a workshop conducted on May 8 at the Marco Polo Ortigas Hotel in Pasig City, Philippines.

The Scientific Committee of AlgaEurope is calling for the submission of abstracts for the 2017 conference. Organizers are encouraging in particular stakeholders from the industry to submit abstracts on recent developments. Abstracts that cover one of the ten thematic tracks determined by the Scientific Committee are also encouraged.
